Character (Original Universe)
Name: Malik Al-Sayf
Age: 30
Gender: Male
Canon: Assassin's Creed
Canon Point: 1195 - after the birth of Altair's son Darim
History: The Wiki
Personality: To say that Malik is prickly and stubborn is both an understatement and a vast generalization. He is a man of sharp words and solid convictions who is unafraid to voice either of them to those around him. He is first and foremost an Assassin, living by the tenants of the Creed and remaining loyal to the Order even after betrayal by both his comrades and leader.

Malik's adherence to the Creed governs his actions and beliefs more than any other ideal. The first tenant is to not harm the innocent, and while he may turn his words against someone who has raised his ire he is not likely to raise a fist or blade unless they have done harm to him or those he sees as under his protection. The second tenant of staying hidden in plain sight is perhaps one of the looser ones to interpret, though no less important. The Assassin Brotherhood acts in secrecy, far more under Altaïr's leadership than previous leaders. Malik keeps his personal life and secrets close to his chest, often sidestepping questions or outright ignoring them if he does not see the questioner as needing to know. He's more than willing to keep his head down and blend with the crowd while keeping his eyes and ears open for every bit of information and opportunity that presents itself. The third tenant has been the one that is both hardest and easiest for Malik to uphold himself, to never bring either direct or indirect harm to any of those of the Brotherhood. He may be harsh and dour towards his Brothers, even seemingly uncaring but his loyalty has and always will be unshakeable even if his trust is not always easy to win.

Towards those of the Brotherhood, Malik is more than willing to be teacher and guide in all he knows; should it be combat skills or advice in how to act in a situation. It is a part of his role as the second in command of the Order. He is, after all, still a skilled fighter despite his missing arm as well as a competent leader and knowledgeable information dealer. He cares deeply for those he keeps under his protection, and seeks to better them in any way he can. The Assassins are his family and while he may not like all of them he will never betray their secrets even if it means his own death.

He knows full well that people likely see him as less of a threat with a missing arm and that is their mistake to make, and one he will take full advantage of. He also knows that if he had been a part of any other organization than the Assassins he would have likely ended up starving on the streets after it's loss, there is only so much a one armed man can do even if he can still do more than most. He would rather people think him angry and unyielding than in need of help or pity, in fact nothing slashes at his pride more than unwanted 'help' being handed to him. If he wanted help he would ask for it.

Malik's harshness and quick temper is an easy thing to not see beyond, he is quick with sharp words (the only thing quicker than a blade in his hand really) and is more often than not disparaging and sarcastic towards others. He wears his anger and frustrations with others as easily as his robes, and has no qualms about voicing them at length. He is not some quiet old man and his praise is something earned and not always easily given out or recognized as such if his words are all someone pays attention to. He holds on to his resentments tightly, bearing grudges and judgements of others until evidence proves a change in them needed.

Malik is not unkind however, or without forgiveness. He is more a man who displays his affections through action than word, quiet things like a meal already made or a door left unlocked in welcome. He is good at listening and giving wise advice to the problems voiced to him. He is also not uneducated, being able to both speak, read and write more than his native language as well as being an exactingly accurate mapmaker for the Brotherhood and competent strategist. He does not change his opinions based on mere words or rumors but on actions and solid proof, it took Altair changing who he was on a more fundamental level to earn Malik's forgiveness and the evidence of the templars themselves to have him willing to act against Al Mualim's treachery.

He is not without his own fears and demons either, he fears the day he will be useless and the loss of his brother Kadar has made him more than a bit of a stickler for the rules of the Brotherhood even if the years between have mellowed that pain somewhat. His dislike of cramped or underground spaces borders at times too closely to actual fear. Malik is, however a man who has risen to his feet after loss and injury that would have killed another man and kept on through sheer willpower to become one of the few to stand beside Altair as an equal.

My Fellow Heroes of Light,

For those of you who I have not had the chance to speak with, consider this something of a formal introduction. While I have been here some time it was quite obviously not amongst the majority of you, and if we are to be allies of any capacity then some degree of familiarity tends to make that an easier thing.

First things first, I am by trade a mapmaker from the year 1195 on Earth though I do have a background as a warrior and scout of some skill. If anyone has questions about that era of history I am willing to shed some insight on it.

Secondly, I would like to hear about the various jobs that can be equipped from those who have been using them. I am considering taking on a new one and prefer to make informed decisions on such things. I currently have both the Scholar and Ninja ones. My only true preference is not being an archer as it is incredibly difficult to draw a bow when you are missing an arm, though any other jobs that completely require two hands to do are out as well.

Safety and Peace,

Malik Al-Sayf

Limit Break: "Glory of Victory, Pain of Defeat" : Malik moves quickly, attacking a single target and and dealing damage to equal his own injuries. If he is uninjured it heals them. (effectively matches a targets health to his own)
